Use the power of the sun to power your devices!
The world’s most advanced mobile communications garment now is also a charging platform for mobile electronics.
Developed by GSF Solar, these jackets are designed to charge portable devices (with most cellular phones, PDA’s, MP3’s )directly or charge an auxiliary battery pack (ChargePakTM). The ChargePak gives constant power for the users that are frequently in and out of sunlight.
The jacket is equipped with a lightweight, tough, waterproof solar panel, generating up to 4 Watts of power, output voltage of 5 V to 7.2 Volts and with an output current of upto 4800mAh targeting small Electronic devices. Most portable devices have a battery capacity of 700 to 1200mAh resulting in charging time of 2 to 4 hours.
These fast charge times are equivalent to using the AC wall adapter or automobile cigarette lighter adapter. Approximate weight of the 2 watt array is 0.05 kilograms (0.11 lbs) and 0.1 kg (0.22 lb) for the 4 watt version; unnoticeable in either weight or feel.
Technology for the Solar Power Jacket is based on the copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) solar cell material family. Unique feature of CIGS is that it only takes a very thin layer (0.00025 centimeter, cm or 0.0001 inches) to efficiently absorb the sun’s energy.
GSF uses a very thin and flexible carrier substrate that is 20 times thinner than a traditional silicon solar cell. Total flexible solar cell thickness is 0.0025 cm or 0.001 inches enabling lightweight, durable, high performance solar products.
The flexible solar is removable for washing and connects through electrically conducting snaps that connect the solar module to an integrated personal area electrical network. The solar cells are laminated in durable protective plastics that can be wiped clean and that provide long term durability.
